It’s quite rewarding finding one of these daggers with an unusual and rare maker, especially in this condition. The collecting market for SA’s has exploded over the past few years, especially with the publication of good reference books (thank you Mr. Seigert!) etc. There are well over 200 different early SA makers. It was a great cottage industry in the 1930’s, so some of the very small enterprises produced very few daggers, which are now very rare. This is a super example by Vitting Eduard, Solingen. The logo of Eduard Vitting consists of a circular emblem with the text "EDUARD VITTING" along the upper arc and "SOLINGEN" along the lower arc. In the center are two stylized figures holding tools (like hammers), flanked by stars.
Dagger remains uncleaned. All nickel fittings are a little yellow with patina. Perfect wood grip with nickel eagle and enamel SA button. Lower crossguard has “P” Gau stamp. Scabbard undamaged and retains 98% of the brown anodising with 50% lacquer remaining. Lower scabbard ball is undented. The blade is lovely with 100% crossgrain polish and deep grey colour to the lettering. There are a couple of VERY minor ‘shadows’ to the surface, looks like where the internal springs rest. Otherwise it’s in MINT condition. A great example for the maker collectors out there.
