Near Mint condition George V Royal Company of Archers Kings Bodyguard of Scotland Court Sword, superb example of the gilt metal court sword pattern ••• as carried by members of the Royal Company Archers Kings Bodyguard of Scotland. Gilt metal clamshell guard with silvered thistle insignia, gilt knuckle guard leading to the patterned pommel. Silver wire bound grip.
Attached to the guard is the original brocade and bullion dress sword knot with green velve backing. Housed in the original leather scabbard with three gilt mounts. Slender blade by J Stewart & Son Edinburgh. Blade is etched with foliage, crowned GRV cipher and ribbons with "ROYAL COMPANY ARCHERS KINGS BODY GUARD". Blade and exterior remain in near mint condition with nearly all the gilt wash finish remaining to the fittings. Blade measures 81 ¼ cms, overall 98 ½ cms.
A superb example, hard to find in this condition!
