Among the rarest edged weapons of twentieth-century European military history, the Kingdom of Bulgaria Air Force Officer Dagger, Model 1930, occupies a singular position. Combining superb craftsmanship with a dramatic origin story tied to the clandestine resurrection of a forbidden air arm, this dagger is one of the most coveted pieces in the field of Axis-era militaria.

Short double-edged blade of genuine Damascus steel with double fullers, gilt brass hilt with eagle head pommel fitted with red glass eyes, the grip cap featuring the Bulgarian state coat of arms, the crossguard formed as a propeller, centrally applied silver-plated radial engine, leather-covered grip with fine wire wrapping, lacquered steel scabbard with gilt brass mounts, the chape terminating in a bird's claw holding a sphere, worn, the gilding still very well preserved.

The officer version with damascus blade, produced by Carl Eickhorn, represents the pinnacle of Bulgarian aviation edged weaponry and is among the most difficult Axis-era daggers to acquire on the collector market.

The present example displays its gilt brass fittings, leathered grip with fine wire wrapping, lacquered steel scabbard with gilt brass mounts, and the distinctive eagle-claw-and-globe finial in well-preserved condition. The gilding remains very well preserved on this carried, authentic service piece — a remarkable artifact from one of the most dramatic chapters in Bulgarian military history.
