The dagger has a wire-wrapped grip. Electroplating for corrosion protection only became practical around 1842; this allows for a fairly precise dating. The grip core is made of double-notched wood. The crossguard ends are shaped like capstans and feature an indistinct anchor on each side in the center. The pommel is shaped like a bundle of reeds with natural, rippled edges. The blade is undecorated and has a rounded tip for safety. The dagger was prescribed by A.K.O. on January 4, 1844.
